Why the Platform?
Being educated in Chicago Public schools, I noticed the sacrifices teachers made to ensure that they were spending their own money for school supplies, classroom decorations or additional classroom workbooks. All of these items are needed to assist them with teaching out of books that are outdated or trying to keep students engaged with no technological equipment like a smart board or overhead projector.
Many of the schools I am speaking of are in low-income areas where additional funding is not accessible for these schools, which is where the Chicago Public Education fund comes in to assist. This fund can assist students with everything from updated books or much needed school supplies.
As an educator, I know how it feels to dig into your own slighted salary to pay for your students' needs. A teacher's job goes well beyond the school hours and their love for their students transcends their salary. I am passionate about this platform because I feel it is the duty of those successful products of the public schools, to give back and assist with the constant needs of the CPS students.
