About Hareder
Chicago native Mrs. Hareder McDowell is currently competing for Miss Plus Illinois 2013. With an extensive background in education it is quite befitting that her platform is the Chicago Public Fund. This fund provides additional resources, updated textbooks and much needed technological resources to underrepresented Chicago Public Schools.
Hareder, who is a graduate of Western Illinois University with a Bachelor in Journalism and Master of Educational leadership from American Intercontinental University, values education and understands its importance to our future. Hareder has served as a junior high school English teacher and an academic advisor for non-traditional students at Career Education Corporation.
Hareder serves as the Ivy Leaf Reporter and Scholarship Cotillion co-chair with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Phi Epsilon Omega Chapter). She is a current member of the National Association for Black Journalists and continues to serve inner city youth as an SAT/ACT preparation coach with Project Achieve.
Hareder has served as a board member of Communigize, a non-profit organization committed to spreading reading materials to marginalized youth in addition to continuous service at her church Christ Universal Temple.
When Hareder is not engulfed in her educational pursuits, she is enjoying movie nights with her husband or entertaining friends with a new recipe because she loves to be in the kitchen. She never misses the opportunity to be fashion forward with her face in a Vogue and her foot in a stiletto.
Hareder is pleased to be a delegate in Miss Plus Illinois and understands that this provides a platform for young women everywhere to be confident in knowing that beauty comes in a variety of packages. Hers just comes in a curvy box.
